McLaren continue Monaco dominance

26May08

Lewis Hamilton clinched his first win at Monaco in an F1 car as he beat Kubica and Massa to the pole. Hamilton’s race almost came to an early end when he lost control in the rain on lap six and hit the barrier at Tabac corner. But while the glancing blow gave him a puncture in his right-rear tyre, it did not damage his car and he was able to pit for a replacement. And the early pit stop was crucial in putting him in a position to win. Both Raikkonen’s and Kovalainen’s race was wrecked as they finished 9th and 8th respectively. Kimi lost out due to driver error while Kovalainen was plain unlucky as his car refused to start during the warm up lap and he was forced to start his race from the pit lane. The saddest story was that of Adrian Sutil who started 19th was cruising in fourth position with only a few laps to go until Raikkonen lost control of the car under braking coming out of the tunnel and hit Sutil from behind, ending his race.
